Under the initiative, the department has released a “Request for Proposals” for the first round of outreach grants funded through CHIP reauthorization. Two-year grants of $25,000 to $1,000,000 will be awarded to successful applicants, which may include state or local governments; tribal organizations; federal health safety net organizations; national, state, local or community-based public or non-profit organizations; faith based organizations; and elementary and secondary schools.
Applications are due August 6, 2009, although a voluntary “Notice of Intent to Apply” is requested by July 10, 2009. A conference call with CMS is planned for potential applicants on July 22, 2009 from 2 to 4pm.
